This body of work illustrates one of man’s most primal needs: meat. Meat is something we see every day, but most of it is neatly prepared and cleaned.
The rawness of my images, combined with the fact that they are in black and white, causes them to become more abstracted yet still draw upon a primal feeling, similar to how a black and white nude—although elegant and abstracted—invokes a deep feeling of lust. Both sex and eating, when viewed from a certain perspective, can be perceived as beautiful as well as unsettling. This body of work hopes to achieve a similar effect, although any overt sexual references the images may contain are unintentional and simply a result of working with this specific medium. The black and white images of meat, while unsettling at first, should strike viewers with their careful lines and gentle tones. Underneath it all lays a primal feeling that could be described as lust for the meat itself.
